The Dark Circle Under Eyes Dilemma ... And How to Beat It

Mar 19th 2020

We’ve all experienced it: We glance into a mirror only to see under eye circles, making us look tired, even when we’re not. Luckily for us, there are easy, affordable ways to cast off those shadows during perimenopause and beyond.

The Two Culprits

It’s true that lack of sleep is often to blame for the pesky dark circles we sometimes face in the morning—not enough shuteye can lead to poor circulation and a build-up of blood in the vessels underneath the eye, leaving the area looking more shadowy. But even when we’ve had enough sleep, many of us are prone to dark under eye patches thanks to genetics or aging—either because we’ve inherited deeper pigmentation in that area, or because the skin under our eyes is so delicate and thin that the veins and capillaries underneath show through, casting a purple or bluish hue.

Help is Here!

The good news is that none of us has to walk through life with raccoon eyes: There are powerful ingredients that have been shown in studies to be effective at reducing the appearance of dark circles from both pigmentation and thinning skin. For the former, look for brightening ingredients like vitamin C and niacinamide. To plump up the skin and improve blood flow, make sure your eye cream contains proven compounds like retinoids and artichoke leaf extract, as well as circulation-boosting vitamin K (found in avocado oil) and caffeine, which naturally constricts blood vessels. (Try SeeMe Beauty’s For Your Eyes Only cream, which contains niacinamide, artichoke leaf extract, and avocado oil in the SeeMe Complex™.)

And say good-bye to tired-looking eyes!
