How to Keep Your Healthy Glowing Skin All Summer Long - The Heat is On!

Jun 15th 2020

The sun is shining, the mercury is rising, and you’ve swapped out your wool sweaters for cotton tee’s. But did you know that with the change of season, you should also think about switching up some of your skincare products? That’s because the summer sun, heat, and humidity affect the skin differently than the cold air of winter. So what skin care product you choose to use on your face can actually make a big difference in how you look and feel during these next few months. Consider this:

Daily Care of Your Skin

Because we produce more sweat and sebum during the summer, those ultra-creamy cleansers and heavy, hydrating face creams that were vital to our skin during the drying winter climate are now potential pore-cloggers once layered over already dewy (a.k.a. sweaty) skin. Because of increased sweat and oil production, it’s more important than ever to facial cleanse, which is why now is the time to look for a gentle, foaming formula to scrub away impurities. Once your face is clean, apply a light-weight face moisturizer or gel to keep your skin supple. Make sure the moisturizer contains at least one powerhouse antioxidant, like vitamin C, E, or niacinamide, to help neutralize the skin-damaging free radicals produced by ultraviolet rays , which are at their most potent during the summer monthsSeeMe Beauty’s Call Me Hydra cream is a terrific light weight hydrator. Which leads us to…

The Best Defense

You know, of course, that you should be wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day, year round. But it’s especially important now when the sun’s damaging UVA/UVB rays are at their strongest. A sunscreen—or a daily moisturizer with SPF—can hydrate your skin at the same time as protecting it, but if you’re very dry, first apply a serum containing a humectant (a compound that draws water to it) like hyaluronic acid or glycerin before applying the SPF.  SeeMe Beauty’s Smooth Out Recovery Serum contains both. And don’t forget to reapply your sunscreen every two hours.

Special Treatment

Even with sunscreen, we can still find ourselves at the end of a day outdoors with red, inflamed skin. For immediate relief of a sunburn, there are some easy home remedies like a soothing aloe vera gel and a cold milk compress (the cooler temperature can draw heat from the burn, while the milk’s lactic acid can exfoliate dead cells, which can help the healing process). If sun exposure leads to patches of discoloration, try a pigment-correcting serum that contains a proven skin lightener such as niacinamide, which can help reduce hyperpigmentation.

Be safe, be well, and be radiant!
